End of a semester

I understand.  You’re exhausted, drained mentally and probably emotionally, exhausted

but be relieved my brethren/sisthren(don’t know if it’s a word, don’t care) for it is done, or almost done for those with Friday or, God forbid, weekend finals.  Now, you can celebrate surviving one more strenuous year living on this insane rock we call earth and playing this chaotic game we call Life.

The Game of Life

Congratulations, pat your self on the back, do a happy dance, eat your fridge, I don’t care how you celebrate as long as you do.  You deserve it.  Life is a hard game to play and you just leveled up another year, so you deserve a reward.  I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  May your December be filled with holiday cheers, presents galore, and that one guy/girl who always gets drunk on the eggnog.  It has been a pleasure to entertain you with tales of SXU shenanigans.  Happy Holidays and, as always, enjoy life.

Happy Holidays!

Because I know that every student AND staff member here at SXU is extremely busy during finals week., I’m not going to post a long and boring blog. Why make everyone suffer through that??

So instead I am here to say…..

Happy holidays everyone! Stay safe and I’ll see you in 2014! :D

End of The Semester Is Here!!

chicago weatherHello everyone! I hope that everyone had a great weekend as this is the final week of the Fall Semester. It is terribly cold outside, which I am sure makes you want to just stay in, but now we are in the home-stretch. Which also means that we are in the midst of finals week as well!

final examsI hope that everyone does extremely well on there finals this week! Finals is a very trying and tiring week for everyone. Stay up late all of the time, making sure that you can remember every ounce of information that your teacher put in the study guide. A little bit of doubt creeping into your mind of what happens. A little bit of advice for everyone, is just to stay calm. If you put in the consistent effort of studying your material, you have nothing to worry about. Don’t let any kind of doubt creep inside of your mind. Just keep telling yourself that you have these exams in the bag and nothing will get in your way from acing these finals that you are taking. I know it’s easier said than done, but if you just instilling in yourself the confidence that you need, than trust me, everything will work out for the best for you!

seinfeldAfter the finals week is over, I’m sure that everyone is going to want to go out somewhere and celebrate! Chicago, more specially downtown, has endless events going on this weekend. For example, legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld will be performing this weekend. His jokes on everyday life experiences are always hilarious. If he stand-up is anything like his hit television show, which I’m sure they are, than the people are in attendance are in for a treat for sure!

mrs carter tourThe great Beyoncé will also be performing this weekend in on Saturday in Chicago as well! She always gives a 100% in all of her performances and I am sure that this performance will be no different. I am also sure that she will have a few surprises up her sleeve for the audience as well. Maybe, just maybe there will be a Jay Z sitting.

christmas carolIf you are into theatre performances, not to worry, Chicago has that going on this weekend as well. A Christmas Carol will be performing all this weekend. The movie is a really good and entertaining movie and the theatre version seems to be just as entertaining. Something that the whole family can enjoy.

nelson mandelaLast, but certainly not least, a great leader passed away Thursday of last week. Nelson Mandela was not only a great man, but a great leader as well, who exemplified what people should strive for! He made a huge impact, not only in South Africa, but all around the world!  Just imagine what he could’ve done if he wasn’t in jail fighting for equal rights. I hope that his accomplishments and what he fought so hard for doesn’t go in vain. I hope that we all truly learn how to get along with one another and not to focus on gender, race, etc.

Down to the wire

I have so many mixed feelings going into finals week! Most of my classes i’m astatic about. Only one test on Tuesday– that being the only actual class period I actually have to go to; Only have one class that I have to really worry about not getting an A in. Things are going great! It scares me though, this semester went by so fast… it’s making me question my dedication and how I can get the most of this experience. I really didn’t expect to love St. Xavier so much!

Everyone here is respectful. I can leave the lobby to go smoke and wander around for an hour and come back and not have worried at all about my laptop

SXU Christmas party!

SXU Christmas party!

and backpack– only in the Reg (Regina) though. The environment of the staff and students just allow me to feel so comfortable and accepted here. Even the cleaning staff and desk students, almost everybody is just fun. It’s funny the variety of people that come together at a college. You see all these people from all different walks of life and you feel a sense of community. Everybody that picked SXU picked it because it’s small, offered them good money, was close to home, wants to be a nurse, and like a billion other reasons and it’s cool.

You just sort of gravitate to people. I’m definitely happy that I didn’t make some friend and stick myself there definitely. I’m friends more so with individuals and so I have a variety of all different types of people in my life and it’s great! The smallness of the school is a huge asset in my eyes. I knew if I picked a big school i’d be more likely to party to much and study to little. Here, you feel like a family. Everybody is studying and hanging out in the lobby all the time and there’s no unfamiliar faces. I am excited for break cause it’s break, but at the same time i’m sad. I kind of feel like I should be spending the holiday here. I want to see all these beautiful people that I see daily and bond with them over Christmas trees, egg nog, and presents.

Anyway, back to the books!

Keep warm:)

Best and Worst of 2013

Hey Everyone!

Can you believe that it’s already December?? Christmas is less than a month away and it is mind blowing to me at how quickly this year went by. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, CAN YOU EVEN FATHOM THAT 2014 IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER??? Sorry for the caps lock, but this is crazy to me! I guess it’s true what they say though…time doesn’t stop for anyone.

With that being said, I really wanted to do a blog that honored this past year. Sometimes as life is passing us by, we forget to live in the moment and cherish what is happening around us. (Soooo cliche, but true!) In regards to 2013, there were many wonderful things that happened, as well as some not so great ones. There were moments of laughter and moments of tears; things that made our jaws drop in shock or shake our heads in disgust at. Let us now take a look into a few of the best and worst moments this year had to offer.

  • Marriage Equality

Can I get a hell yeah for this one? Honestly, this has been a long time coming and I am so happy that not only the US but other countries around the world are finally legalizing gay marriage. I cannot wait until the day where gay marriage isn’t seen as something that is taboo in society, but as a norm! Seriously though! Why can’t people love who they wanna love??? Obama became the first president of the US to publicly promote his support of gay marriage this year. Illinois and Hawaii legalized it. New Mexico is going to pretty soon. 2013 was a huge step in the right direction for gay rights. #loveislove #noh8 #judgemeforusinghashtagsinablog

  • Jennifer Lawrence

This girl is FLAWLESS. She swears like a truck driver, loves food, is super quirky and funny and everyone wants to either date her or be her. 2013 was the year of J-Law! Not only is she the star of the highly successful and lucrative Hunger Games franchise, but she also won an Oscar this year for her role in the dark comedy, Silver Linings Playbook. She’s seriously is just more awesome than I can even explain in one blog post…so I’m gonna move on.

  • Pope Benedict resigns
SEE? He really is the best pope!!!

SEE? He really is the best pope!!!

Out with the old and in with the new!! Because Pope Benedict resigned his position as the leader of the Catholic Church, the world was introduced to probably the best pope in the history of this position, Pope Francis. Okay, no one can beat Pope John Paul II, but this guy is pretty close. Now, I am NOT a religious person AT ALL but this guy gives me hope for the future. First of all, he sneaks out at night to feed and minister the homeless. Secondly, he promotes social justice and mercy. And last but not least, he tries to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths. He truly is a gift from God.

  • Royal baby

Don’t lie, you were obsessed with the royal baby just as much as everyone else. And if you say you weren’t, you’re lying. Kate Middleton gave birth to Prince George on July 22and literally that’s all every news outlet could focus on for about a week after. But it’s no wonder why: the Royal family is alwayssss in the spotlight. Plus William and Kate are like the Kim and Kanye of the UK.. Only way classier and less self-absorbed.

  • Vine

Every high school/college students go-to procrastination app. If you don’t know what Vine is, type it in on youtube. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

  • Natural Disasters

The typhoon in the Philippines, the deadly tornadoes in Illinois, and the Colorado wildfires….the list goes on and on. These uncontrollable forces of nature have negatively affected the lives of many different people throughout the world, leaving people to pick up the pieces in their aftermath.

  • The surprising deaths of Paul Walker and Cory Monteith

paul walker.

A ton of well-known people have died this year, but none were more surprising than these two. Cory Monteith, star of the FOX show Glee, passed away this year at the age of 31 due to an accidental overdose on heroin and alcohol. The saddest part about his death was how hard the actor had tried to recover after being an addict since he was young. His relapse and consequent death shocked and saddened everyone. And just a few days ago, Hollywood lost another young movie star, Paul Walker. His claim to fame was starring in the hit movie franchise, the Fast and the Furious. Walker died in a single car crash at the age of 40 with former race car driver, Roger Rodas. Speed apparently was a factor in this tragic accident. Such a shame to see two young lives cut short by seemingly avoidable incidents.

  • Miley Cyrus

2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival - Day 1 - Press Room

Do I even need to explain why she is on this list??

  • Abercrombie’s sexist, racist, and fat-shaming CEO
Not to be mean, but he is really ugly. Kind of hypocritical, don't you think?

Not to be mean, but he is really ugly. Kind of hypocritical, don’t you think?

This guy is a tool. I can’t find the exact article online that I read a few months ago, but Mike Jeffries only wants “beautiful people” to wear his company’s clothing. That basically means if you’re not a white, size two female, or a super muscular, tan, and six foot tall male…you shouldn’t be wearing Abercrombie’s clothes. UHHHHHH, EXCUSE ME? Not too many people would be caught DEAD in anything Abercrombie anyways…so don’t put limits on who should be shopping at your store. Plus, Abercrombie is soooooo 2002! For more info on this creep of a CEO, check out the link below!

PS, anyone that doesn’t promote wearing the color black shouldn’t be trusted. Black is the best and most flattering color to wear, this guy obviously doesn’t understand fashion.

  • Boston Marathon bombing

Such a horrific incident at this years Boston marathon where three people were killed and 200 + people were injured. Dozens of people suffered injuries so bad, they had to have arms and leg amputated just to survive. Two Islamic extremist brothers (whose names I refuse to post because they do not deserve any recognition) were found to be the masterminds behind this bombing. A manhunt began throughout Boston for these two, leading to a shootout between them and the police a few days later. One of the brothers died in this shootout, and the other remains behind bars awaiting a trial. He has pleaded (of course) not guilty to the charge of using a weapon of mass destruction and murder.

So overall, I think 2013 was a pretty good year. Even though there were a lot of ups and downs, I think it’s safe to say that the positive things definitely outweighed the negative. I hope that you all had a spectacular 2013, and even if you didn’t, 2014 is right around the corner. Make the most out of these last few weeks of the year and start planning on ways to make next year even better than this one!

Finals Week Drawing Near!

I hope that everyone had a great holiday weekend! I know that had a great weekend. A break off from classes, which was real needed to energize my batteries. It was great having being around my family, especially my brothers, who I don’t get to see as much because of all of us being in college at different schools. Fun times and celebrated my birthday, which was a bonus as well.

sxu  It’s hard to believe that the semester is practically over. It was a good semester and I enjoyed meeting new people such as classmates, teachers, etc. I was nervous about starting over, but the people made me feel very comfortable about here, that I told forgot that I transferred. It has been a great experience thus far and I looking forward to what the future holds while attending Saint Xavier University. However, I am not complaining about this much needed break coming up. It is much needed!

studyingHowever, the fun and games are now going to be placed on hold for the time being and get as much studying in as possible. Late nights cramming for as much information as possible for a close to, 100 hundred question quiz, is something that no one, especially myself, is looking forward to! However, it’s something that needs to be done to graduate and get one step closer to my goal. The late night studying and typing up papers all or worth it and the sacrifice that I will make to move closer to gaining my diploma.
