Nice Break Coming Up!

1Hello everyone! I hope that everyone had a great, productive week and are enjoying their weekend as well! Only a few weeks left in the Fall Semester, so it’s time to buckle down and work hard to finish strong. Before that though, I’m sure that mostly everyone is excited for not only the short week this upcoming week, but also for Thanksgiving as well! I’m really looking forward to spending time with my loved ones and just enjoying myself and having a great time in the process. Not to mention that my birthday falls on the break, so I’m looking forward to celebrating it with close friends and family.

I feel so relieved and free and that I have finally finished typing up my last paper for the semester! I can finally breathe a little bit better knowing that. All I have left to do are two Finals and a presentation, than I am done! With this weekend coming up, I am just going to let loose and really enjoy myself.

I haven’t been able to go out at all this semester. With assignments due almost everyday and being in the hospital, it is nice to know that everything for the most part is done. Now it’s time to celebrate Thanksgiving and everything that it has to offer. I4 I am so thankful for so many things this year. From new-found relationships, my Mom, girlfriend, friends, family. I just cannot wait to see everyone and enjoy the break. After the break, get back to the grind of the semester and close it out strong like I always do!

With that being said, I hope that everyone enjoys their week and enjoys the Thanksgiving holiday as well!

The Week Keeps Going, Even For The Sick..

Well hey ya’ll, we are almost there, must of us have two days this week of school before you get to sit back, relax, and eat a whole bunch of turkey. Hopefully it isn’t too bad.. I only have classes on Monday, and get to ride home! Super excited to see my family! This past week has been terrible for me though, I have been sick, and being sick in college really isn’t fun.. For those classes you can have absences for, it’s not many, and when you try and go to class coughing and sneezes, you’re pretty much not getting anything that your professor is saying! It just isn’t fun at all. All I know is that being sick in college isn’t fun.. There is so much I decided to miss after my classes that I wish I could of gone to! From the hunger banquet to improv, I hated missing all of these awesome fun things, but I also knew that if I didn’t rest, I would probably never get better, and even though it has almost been a week I am still not up to my hundred percent self! Once I Bet this cold I will probably never again want to have tea ever again.. Because I am on 3-5 cups every day, never again. I miss coffee. And I miss other foods then soup, on the plus point at least our cafeteria  does change there soups everyday!

photoOne thing that I knew I had to do sick or not was go to Broadview Detention Center this week, especially after Obama’s Speech on immigration, how he is he finally taking the correct steps, but more is needed, we need to say thank you President Obama, but more needs to get done. On Friday, it was a smaller group of SXU students for Broadview Detention Center, I didn’t even know about it myself till the day before, but everyone should try hard in January and following months to learn about the broken immigration system, about the steps that are taking place to hopefully mend them, and to pray for those who are being affected about deportation. This week’s was pretty cool, not just in weather because there was channel 5 interviewing families and protesors!

I hope everyone makes it through these two days, and safe travels back home for turkey time and family time! Sending happy thoughts from a sick girl, who is tired of tea, drink some coffee for me!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is staying focused for these last few days before we get a short break for Thanksgiving. I know I am looking forward to going home, spending time with my family and eating home cooked meals. As expected, Thanksgiving has me thinking about all the wonderful blessings I have in my life. I am very fortunate and I rarely recognize it. So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I thought I would share some of things I am most thankful for and I encourage everyone else to do the same, or at the very least spend a few moments thinking about them over the next few days.

1. My family – I am beyond lucky to have a fantastic support system. College life can be a bit of a roller coaster as you make major life decisions and my parents, sisters and brother have always stood by me, despite my indecisiveness. I am also very lucky to be supported financially, a lot of students do not get that luxury.

2. My friends – I am not exaggerating when I say that I have the best friends a girl could ask for. I have a group of people with whom I can be completely myself, which is rare. And, we’re always laughing, those have been some of the most memorable moments of my college experience thus far.

3. My Father – Even though my dad passed away suddenly a little over a year ago, I am beyond thankful for the twenty wonderful years I got to spend with him, all of the things he taught me, his endless love and support and his presence and influence in my life even to this day. Not every girl is fortunate enough to have a great relationship with her dad. My dad was and is my hero and one of my best friends.

4. My school/education – I often take for granted how fortunate I am to be working towards my college degree. Because of the high cost of tuition, so many people will never hold that diploma in their hands. Although it is hard work, I have been given a great opportunity to learn and prepare myself for my future career.

5. Writing – Although it sounds like work (and it is) I am so thankful that I have been given the gift and the opportunity to write and share my thoughts, feelings and experiences with the world through this blog and my newspaper column (and hopefully on a much larger scale someday). It is a privilege to have the eyes, ears and attention of those who read what I write. It is not always easy to share your life with people you don’t even know, it puts you in a vulnerable place. But, I have been fortunate enough to receive a great deal of support, acceptance and approval from those who read my blog and column. Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The second shoot was very interesting. Working with Dara was more about fashion and how you present yourself. Working with Jacob was all about angles and lighting. Both great people and photographers.

This shoot was multi-part series. The first I did not go to, but Michael did. The second we both went. We did a couples shoot and I got my individual shoot as well as professional head shots.

Here are some of my favorites. I hope you all are inspired!

Last semester, my friend Dara asked me to be a model for her class project in photography. So I did and it was a lot of fun. This semester, a co-worker, Jacob asked both Michael and myself to model for him, so we did.

It was so interesting working with both of them and being able to bring to life the visions these photographer had. I finally feel like all those years of watching “America’s Next Top Model” paid off! LMFAO!

I truly hope that I will get the chance to do the same in the Fall semester of 2015. I was a model twice and finally being able to be a photographer would be amazing!

Here are some of my photos from my first shoot! Enjoy!

Around the Corner

Hello everyone! So we are close, almost at the finish line! Thanksgiving is just the round the corner! I am so excited!!! Some awesome things are coming up this week; I’m especially excited about the hunger banquet!! It’s this Tuesday, November 18 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Butler Reception Room! Everyone needs to go! For those of you who don’t know what it is, the hunger banquet is a simulation that allows us to understand what hunger is in this world, and it will also give us ideas on whcansat we can do to help! And there will also be free food! So everyone should go! There will also be a raffle, and its super easy to be entered! Either submit a canned good or donate $1!

Also on Tuesday the 18th at 9:15 pm, Improv will be having another fabulous show with our campus Ministry! Come If You Can! Everyone should also bring a canned good or a non perishable food to donate! It will be given to the less fortunate during the holidays! It shall be amazing! And everyone should attend!

This Saturday night I was lucky enough to be able to have Chi Tung! My friends and I were able to eat at the hibachi grill! It was so good! It was definitely my favorite meal that I have had in the last three months, other than the homemade food my family left me when they were here last month. I would for sure say that if you haven’t ever had it, and its a special occasion, or you just want a really good meal, go and have heaven on a plate.

And on a awesome side note, our football team is ranked third in the NAIA nation, so thats awesome!

I hope everyone has a great week, keep pushing through cause thanksgiving break is near!

Walk Through Week

I am super excited this week because I did a lot of great things. This was my week. Check it out!

MONDAY! Michael and his best friend Matt are going to start a podcast! Whenever they are together they have a blast! They laugh about nothing and everything at the same time. They are definitely good vibes to be around when you’re having a bad day.

TUESDAY! This day was very nerve wrecking and exciting at the same time. I received an email from Career Services quite some time ago about an internship. At first I didn’t make much of it until I read it. It was a PAID internship and all I needed to apply was my resume and a cover letter. I sent it in so now I am just waiting! Pray for me! HAHAHA

WEDNESDAY! I worked all day…. Don’t talk to me about Wednesday…. BUT I had COFFEE so it wasn’t too bad. Denisse bought me lunch too! #CommuterProblems HAHA! Hey girl, hey! I see you.

THURSDAY!

Nothing special… I went to work. I had a caramel burlee lattee from Starbucks. My dirty little obsession.

FRIDAYYY!

UNIDOS had their Ice Cream Social for Diversity Week. It was a success! We have 4 different flavors plus a special treat called Mangolada. It’s a mango purree/sauce and you add chamoy which is a chile sause and tajin which is like chile powder. You can add ice cream to it and lemon as well. It was great!

SATURDAY!

This was my mommy’s birthday! She is now in her late 30′s. She’s so amazing. She recently started working on the weekends and I see her less than I already used to and it makes me realize how much I miss her and how much work she does at home. It feels empty without her.

This is my mother and her 4 kids.

SUNDAY!

Today was nothing special. I had a photoshoot with Michael for one of our friends photography class. It was interesting. AND….. THE BEARS WON TODAY! I predicted they would win today. I am a proud Bears Fan.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Is The School-year Over With Yet?!

1Hello all! I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend and are ready to get the week started! It is hard to believe that it is only a few weeks left until the end of the semester. I remember when school first started in August and I was not ready for it to begin. I guess “Senioritis” is very much real and you eventually get to that point in your undergrad where you just want it to fast forward so you can walk across the stage and receive your diploma. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen like that and you need to put in some serious work to make that happen.

2For myself, me getting the week off to just re-energize my batteries and rest my foot was vital. I feel fresh and ready for the home-stretch with classes and work. I need to finish strong more so then ever before, as I will only have one semester left for my undergrad! I’m feeling real excited about the prospect of graduating and the fact that it is getting closer and closer. Hopefully with the grace of God, everything falls into place and I can make it happen, which I am confident that I will.

3Classes are hard, but you have to get through brick walls to achieve your goal. Senior Seminar is by far the hardest that I have taken since I’ve been in college, but it is the best and most interesting class that I have taken as well. I have learned so much from the class and everything that it has to offer to Communication Majors. I am beyond appreciative of that and the valuable lessons are priceless.

4A busy week ahead with nothing but papers in my future, but at least I’ll be done with papers after this week. I also have to take a math placement exam to take the math class that I desperately need to graduate. My fingers are crossed with that one, but I just have to have a positive attitude and everything will workout for the best.

5Just take things one day at a time and I will be done before I know it. I hope that everyone has a great week and keeps on pushing forward!

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Finals

Ah, there’s a chill in the air, you’re assignments are piling up, you’ve gotten a total of 10 hours of sleep this week and there’s a constant sense of impending doom…must be getting close to finals week!  As a communications major, my finals tend to consist of mostly projects and papers rather than lengthy exams, but it has always been stressful nonetheless. Because of the nature of our final projects and papers, it is really more of a finals month rather than a finals week for comm majors. This year, I am fortunate enough to have a wicked combination of projects, papers AND exams that will decide my fate come the end of the semester.

Student-Studying

This December will mark my fifth round of finals as a college student so I’ve developed a few ways to manage my stress around finals season that I figured I would share with those of you who might be a little more new at this or are just feeling the pressure right about now. Here they are:

-Plan – I can’t stress organization enough. Know what is due, when it’s due and try to predict how much time you’ll need to complete it. Then, make yourself a detailed schedule and stick to it, it is the only way you won’t drown in the massive wave that is finals week.

-Ask Questions – Do not hesitant to ask your professor to be specific about assignments and exams. Knowing exactly what they expect will ensure that you do not waste time studying or working on something that will not show up on the exam. Every minute counts!

-Eat and Sleep – It may seem like I don’t need to remind you do the two basic things that your body requires, but trust me, when you’re stressed and busy, those needs can fall by the wayside. I prefer to wake up early to study or work on projects rather than “pulling an all nighter” because it is scientifically proven that your brain is more active and effective in the morning after you’ve rested. You’re studying and your final products will be of better quality if you get the rest an nourishment you require.

-Leave time do something fun every day – Plan a few hours to take a break every day. Your brain is going to need it. Don’t feel like you’re a bad student if you put away the books for a while, it will actually benefit you. So watch something stupid and mindless on tv, hang out with your friends, go to a restaurant, get some exercise, whatever you like to do!

Here’s to hoping that everyone’s next few weeks are a success…or at least not a disaster! Good luck!

Motivation and Determination

1Hello everyone! I hope that you all had a great past weekend and are having an exceptional week. As I’ve always said, to get what you truly want, you have to dig down deep and achieve it. A lot of bumps and hurdles will most definitely get in the way in the process, but that’s when we must find the inner-strength within to jump those hurdles, go through those brick walls, and whatever cliche you would like to add to it. Just get the job done!

1Over the weekend, I ended up being back and fourth to the hospital over my foot, that was in so much pain that I couldn’t put an ounce of weight on it. I eventually decided to go to the hospital, only to have a not-so good time. Being stuck in the hospital for three days is far from being a joke, but thank God that my Mom, girlfriend and close friends had my back through this and that I am finally out of the hospital and I am at home getting much needed bed rests. Thankfully, I have great and understanding teachers, who are letting attend my classes through emails and discussion boards.

1However, over the past month, I have been through a lot. Dealing with personal issues with others in your family is never a good thing. I’m not going to let these issues interrupt what I am trying to accomplish. Graduation for me is right around the corner and I am not going to miss it for anything. I just have to stay determined and keep the positive people and things around me and kick the negativity to the curb!
