Hello everyone! I hope that you all are enjoying your weekend! It’s hard to believe, but the semester is winding down to a close. At Saint Xavier University, this upcoming week (beginning tomorrow), will be the end of the 2014 Fall Semester. With this bit of information, two things come to mind: One, I finally get to kick up my heels and relax me feet for awhile with no worries. Two, non-stop studying for Finals. The second one is obviously not a fan favorite to anyone, but it has to be done.
Non-stop cramming for exams, staying up past two in the morning, making sure you get every inch of knowledge crammed inside your brain that you can use once your exams come around. I know from experience that it has to be extremely stressful on your mind and takes a toll on your body as well. However, what I have come to learn in my years of taking Finals is to not panic, don’t over-think and have complete faith in your capabilities that you have this covered.
Trust me, I know that these three phrases are better said than done. At times we tend to over-think certain aspects of our life, with school being one of them. Don’t over-think your answers to whatever question is presented to you on your exams and have faith in yourself and believing that you can conquer any challenge presented to you. Don’t panic if you don’t know the answer or wonder what if you don’t pass. We’ve all worked too hard to give up or stress over things such as what if. Look at it as just another obstacle to is ahead of you, and it will be mastered by you.
With that being said, I hope that everyone has a wonderful Finals Week and enjoys their much needed off time as well!
Hey y’all, it’s that time of the year, where everyone is stressed, talking to themselves as they walk, and if you ask them how they are doing, they look lost. It’s the week of finals. Now as a freshmen I thought I knew what finals would be like, they would be tests. Nope. It’s so much more. How many papers can one person write? Well let’s take that limit, and times it by ten, and that’s how many papers we all can write!! Through out the semester the thought of, “man, I’m stressed, there is so much I need to do!” But that was before this week.. So many papers. So many readings. So many things. It’s just. Well how I thought college was going to be. Stressful. And this whole semester was working up to this up coming week.
So even though I am a freshman, I have been given a few tips on how to live through this up coming week so I thought I would share!:
#1. Get sleep. It doesn’t do you any good to stay up till 4 am on coffee and power drinks to only be at your 8 am exam sleeping..
#2. Don’t procrastinate! Try and get assignments and papers done before they are due! Work on what is due soonest and just keep pushing till it’s done!
#3. Eat healthy! It’s so important! Eating unhealthy weighs you down! If you can pick food that will give you energy for the day not just an hour that will help you in the long run! This also being sad don’t load up on energy drinks and pops! You might feel awake for an hour or so but after that you will crash! And that isn’t good, and really they are just unhealthy for you!
#4. Try and work out! I know it’s a stressful time, and we all feel like we have no time, but if you can try and go for a run or hit the gym for half an hour, it really will give you a break from studying and it’s good for you!
#5. Take breaks! Studies show that studying one thing for more then an hour doesn’t do you any good! So study for 45 minutes, take a break, work on another subject for a bit, and keep pushing!
#6. Lastly, you are just human, you are one person, try your hardest, it’s not the end of the world! Breathe!
I hope everyone does fantastic on there finals! We are almost done then it’s home for the holidays! You can do this! I can do this! We got this! Just keep swimming! And have a great break everyone!
Hello everyone! I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving Day breaking and enjoyed it will the people that truly matter to you. I had a great holiday break from start to finish. I got the opportunity to spend my break with some very special people in my life!
I got a chance to spend half of my break with my girlfriend’s family, which was pretty fun. This is our first Thanksgiving together and it was a great time for the both of us. We hung out at my mom’s house for a bit as well, and it’s always a fun time at my mom’s place. I got a chance to lay back and just chill for a bit. I most definitely wasn’t complaining about it either. The only downside about my break was the fact that my foot is still a little bit swollen and sore.
It’s improved somewhat, but I still have to use my crutches at times, especially in the morning time, due to my foot being stiff. Over the course of the day, it gets a little bit better, but I cannot wait for this whole ordeal to be over with! I just want to be able to walk, without limping, having pain, being able to wear my shoes fully, etc. This injury most certainly makes you not want to take anything for granted! However, I put that to the side and celebrated my birthday!
It was a great birthday yesterday. My girlfriend took me out to eat with good people, and it was just a breathe of fresh air! This was the best birthday that I’ve had in a long time. I was planning on going out to celebrate, but due to my foot, I have to wait another time. However, just the love, support and friends and family letting me know how much they love me and all, made this day enjoyable and special for years to come!
I hope that everyone enjoyed their break and are hard at work with preparing for Finals. On the bright side, the semester will be over with next week. This allows us to finally have some free time and to finally kickback and enjoy our quality time!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I was lucky enough to spend my holiday with family that I love, I have so much to be thankful for! I split my five day break between my house in the south suburbs and my sister’s house on the north side. It’s very nice to be able to spend so much time with my family, but the traveling can be exhausting, especially as a resident student. It seems like I spend quite a bit of time packing and unpacking around the holidays.
Now that Thanksgiving is over my family and I are in Christmas mode. We spent all of Sunday putting up our tree and my mother and sister spent all of Friday searching for Black Friday deals. I opted out of Black Friday shopping this year and I am glad I did, as much as I love Christmas shopping, I hate crowds. Instead of shopping in the stores, the past few years I have found online shopping to be quite useful. The Monday following Thanksgiving has been adequately named “Cyber Monday”. Many businesses offer free shipping on items bought online on this day and various other deals on holiday purchases. I’ve bought a few great gifts online already from the comfort of my own home, can’t beat that!
I traveled back to Saint Xavier early this morning (not without a few minor glitches) to finish the last two weeks of the semester. I have several papers, projects and exams to complete over the next few weeks so I anticipate a lot of stress and busy days and nights are right around the corner. I am looking forward to completing my courses and enjoying a long winter break.
Good luck to all college students during finals week and I hope everyone has a fun, restful and peaceful holiday! Stay warm!
Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a lovely happy thanksgiving! I got home to snowy Minnesota at about three thirty in the morning on Tuesday! I took the Mega Bus home, which was mostly filled with college students who were also returning home! My journey to Minnesota also involved my first Metra! Which was pretty exciting! Shout out to the best roommate ever who came along with me! The Metra was pretty cool, and took us directly to the Union Station in Downtown! After a long run around to where the Mega Buses was and my iPhone lying to me saying that the pick-up was another half hour away and freaking out.. My lovely roommate called home asking where the Mega Bus stop was, for all people who may need to use it, it is only a block away.. Not half an hour.. My iPhone lied..
Through almost the whole break I was sick.. Through the twelve hour drive of more and more snow.. Through Thanksgiving meal of turkey.. Sick.. Finally I went to the doctors again on Friday, and found out that I had a sinus infection.. SO now modern medicine is doing wonders and I am already doing so much better! I am excited that it’s only two weeks till I get to go home again though, and be healthy.. Being healthy is nice.. Good luck to everyone on finals! Power through this last week and then finals/papers/projects, you can do it! If you are doubting yourself its okay, just look at my cute little sister cheering you on!
This week was extremely long!
Monday: I had a full day of classes and went to see Michael play in the Intramural Basketball Championship.
On the sidelines
