Walk Through Week

I am super excited this week because I did a lot of great things. This was my week. Check it out!

MONDAY! Michael and his best friend Matt are going to start a podcast! Whenever they are together they have a blast! They laugh about nothing and everything at the same time. They are definitely good vibes to be around when you’re having a bad day.

TUESDAY! This day was very nerve wrecking and exciting at the same time. I received an email from Career Services quite some time ago about an internship. At first I didn’t make much of it until I read it. It was a PAID internship and all I needed to apply was my resume and a cover letter. I sent it in so now I am just waiting! Pray for me! HAHAHA

WEDNESDAY! I worked all day…. Don’t talk to me about Wednesday…. BUT I had COFFEE so it wasn’t too bad. Denisse bought me lunch too! #CommuterProblems HAHA! Hey girl, hey! I see you.

Nothing special… I went to work. I had a caramel burlee lattee from Starbucks. My dirty little obsession.

UNIDOS had their Ice Cream Social for Diversity Week. It was a success! We have 4 different flavors plus a special treat called Mangolada. It’s a mango purree/sauce and you add chamoy which is a chile sause and tajin which is like chile powder. You can add ice cream to it and lemon as well. It was great!

This was my mommy’s birthday! She is now in her late 30′s. She’s so amazing. She recently started working on the weekends and I see her less than I already used to and it makes me realize how much I miss her and how much work she does at home. It feels empty without her.

This is my mother and her 4 kids.

Today was nothing special. I had a photoshoot with Michael for one of our friends photography class. It was interesting. AND….. THE BEARS WON TODAY! I predicted they would win today. I am a proud Bears Fan.

Good Morning Cougars!

School is starting to kick my butt! My criminal justice classes are definitely kicking into high gear with exams, papers, and projects. This semester I am taking 4 criminal justice classes (Juvenile Justice, Victimology, Corrections, and Stats & Research 1) and I dropped my 1 political science class (Political Theory). It was totally NOT my thing :(

Next semester is going to be fun! I am getting more of my gen-eds out of the way and I will be taking 3 criminal justice classes, 1 English class because it’s like taking out 5 birds with 1 stone, and a history class as well. I cannot stress how important it is that you make sure you have enough credits to graduate! It’s not just about finishing up your classes. I will be taking 3 extra classes my last semester here because I will have finished my major but I would be short on credits. I am taking suggestions on fun, easy, interesting classes! LOL

We are beginning preparations for our 2nd annual mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is such an important and influential saint/angel in our Catholic religion. If anyone would like to participate, please reach out to UNIDOS through our Facebook page. We need lots of volunteers and help!

I am like getting into this thing called exercise… Have you guys heard of it? What are your experiences like? What are some beginner exercises you recommend to get into shape? I used to play soccer in high school but that was like 3 years again… I feel old :( LOL

Fall is in full motion! What are some of your favorite things to do this time of year? I know I promised a post on DIY Halloween costumes but I just found an awesome video on YouTube that I have stuck in my mind so I’ll share that! I will be posting Halloween pictures on my next blog.

In about 2 weeks, keep an eye out for my first video blog! It’ll be my first time doing something like it so I hope all goes well LOL

Catch you soon! Live Life, Love Life, Live Large!

Today, October 19th, 2014 marks the 9th week of school! That means that we have 7 weeks left. My advice to everyone is that you are meeting with your professors and advisors to make sure that you are doing the best you can.

On Friday, UNIDOS sponsored a dance to close Hispanic Heritage Month in the Regina Res Center and got a head start on Diversity week. Here are some pictures.

Saturday was Sweetest Day! I spent a wonderful afternoon with my partner. He came to my house with flowers and chocolates. TOTALLY SURPRISED ME! Then we went to eat at bd’s Mongolian Grill (it’s my favorite place). Usually we go to the one in Naperville but this time we went to the one on Bolingbrook. The place is located within a mini mall called the Pomenade. I didn’t even know of this place before saturday but its so nice!

Sunday was a nice family day. My little cousin slept over and played all day with my little brothers. His parents came later that evening and I got to hold and play with my two baby cousins. It gives me baby fever sometimes :/ LOL

I got my half of my midterms back! I got a C on my political theory midterm and I also got a C on my criminal justice – juvenile justice midterm. It was intense. It was 25 multiple choice plus a short essay and a long essay! Talk about college :( lol

Happy Homecoming Weekend!

I hope everyone had a great weekend in Coug Town! I heard we won our Homecoming game! I didn’t get to go :(

I did have the chance to go to the Heritage Ball! There was some trouble at first with me not having a dress and the day before spending all afternoon in the mall going from store to store trying to find one. It was hard… Especially since I had just spent 5 straight hours working on a paper for my criminal justice class – Juvenile Justice and Delinquency. Here are some pictures of my night!

These are all my friends! :)

I got called “The Mexican Marilyn Monroe” a couple of times that night!

Tonight! SUNDAY, September 28th! ONCE UPON A TIME IS BACK! I have been binge watching this show since I found it on Netflix. It took me about two weeks total for the first and second season, 3 days for the third season, and now it’s on TV! Frozen is coming to Storybrooke. I can’t wait!

Once Upon A Time Season 4

The only downside about my weekend is that the Bears lost to the Packers :( I hope that next week is better!

As the secretary of UNIDOS, we had an event on Thursday in the diner atrium. UNIDOS hosted dance lessons. I don’t have those pictures yet… but once I do! Best believe I will share them with you guys!

Tomorrow is Monday! As we enter the 6th week of school, I pray for everyone that has exams coming up. May God give you the blessings you need in order to be successful and happy.

So Wake Me Up

IMG_0769Hey y’all, this is one thing that I picked up since my move from Minnesota, I say y’all now, I’m sorry mom.  But really though, this past week has been one of my favorite weeks at college!  Just so you know, I love taking pictures, it captures the moment, so you will see a lot of pictures! On Wednesday I started working the bread truck, and before returning back to school I already asked to be signed up for every Wednesday that was open. For those of you who do not know what the bread truck is, on MondayIMG_0768 and Wednesday from 5:45 to 9 p.m., students go to the Port Ministries in the Back- of- the- Yards neighborhood of Chicago.  With the Bread truck we stop at various stops offering sandwiches, soup and hot chocolate to the homeless and people in need of a meal.   It truly is  a great way to get involved in our community. The time flies! And you get a nickname, mine is Sassy. So if you are interested in helping those in need, want to get to know great people, and get a awesome nickname to email Thomas Cook at cook@sxu.edu (The three of us volunteers in the back of the bread truck, had such a great time with these lovely’s.) The next best thing was the Quest retreat! Without giving away information for those who are going in the Spring and small group!next fall! Quest was amazing.  All future students who are thinking about going, should.  You get such a great experience with a great group of people, Questies Besties goes so far! And don’t even get me started on how amazing my small group was!  If you are looking to create a strong knitted group with a religious touch, go to Quest!  It is just so great! For those who thought they couldn’t go because they weren’t Catholic or Christian, you should!  It really is open to everyone no matter what your beliefs are, it focuses on the connection that we are all humans, we all have problems, we all have issues, but it is up to you to how you want to look at life.  (The middle picture was the Fall Quest group and the left picture was my amazing small group.)

On an important note, my little sissy, Maya, turned seventeen on the twenty third 1172471_594376520624399_1430609506_oof this month! This is our first birthday apart since she was born, and its crazy thinking I am eight hours away from her!  She is my best friend,  and I miss her everyday, but she was one of the people who encouraged me most about attending Saint Xavier University, she knew what I wanted when I didn’t know. (Picture above on right is Maya and I, one of my favorite pictures together.)

My first week of homecoming in college, and it was so much fun! TheIMG_0908re is so many fun games and activities for the week! My favorite part was the football game on Saturday! WE WON! 28-13! Maybe because my high school IMG_0909almost never won, but it was so great being there! And the food was good! All the students and families all dressed in red, and black! It was great! Football has never been so excited! (Pictures are from having a blast at the homecoming game!)

It’s a wonderful day don’t you think? The sun is shining. The wind is breezy. What does that mean??? It’s fall! :D

What happens in the fall you may ask? Well let me tell you.

  2. Bonfires
  3. Holidays – Halloween, Thanksgiving, maybe some birthdays?

Speaking of football, I am attending SXU for my third year now and I have not been to a SXU football game yet! :( Sad right? I know. BUT I did go to my first Bears game! Go Bears!

Chicago Bears

I love soccer! I have been to a few SXU soccer games and it’s always a blast! I don’t talk about sports, but when I do I get super excited.

Spring Break is Over!

Front Row at Hollywood Undead

Front Row at Hollywood Undead

Hey Guys! I don’t know about all of you, but I had a great extended spring break. It went by very quickly though as it always does.

To the right here is an image from a Hollywood Undead concert I attended to rap up my spring break! It was an amazing concert! I was able to get front row at the concert. This was the fourth time I saw the band and it was easily the best experience I have had at one of their concerts because of how close I was in relation to the stage! If you have never listened to Hollywood Undead, I think you should give them a try, at least their older music.

Saint Xavier University on the scoreboard in Arizona

As you know if you have read my previous posts, I was in Arizona for spring break! While I was there, I was able to attend a Phoenix Suns game and I had a blast! If you have never been to Arizona, I recommend that you check it out because that is one fun place to be! The Phoenix Suns arena is definitely one to check out if you are a big basketball fan.

One of the main reasons my parents and I visited Arizona was for spring training. I went to a lot of games over spring training. One of the games was the Cubs @ White Sox. At the game, they gave Saint Xavier a mention on the scoreboard and I thought that was pretty cool! Take a look for yourself.
So to wrap this up, if you ever get the chance, you should definitely take a trip to Arizona, you will not regret it!

Road Trip!

Road Trip!

Hey Guys,

Will here, but right now I am not in Chicago at Saint Xavier; I am in Branson, Missouri getting ready to make the call for our school’s men’s basketball team in the first round of the NAIA National Championship tournament. The game is tonight at 9:45 p.m. This is by far the latest game I have ever called, so it should be an interesting one. I left with the team back on Monday at 8 am and was able to work it out with my teachers so that I ended up getting an extra week of spring break!

So far this trip has been pretty fun! We had a long bus ride into Missouri,

Branson, MO

Branson, MO

but luckily we were on a pretty awesome coach bus, so it was almost like an airplane on wheels. To get the team pumped up we watched a great selection of movies; The Avengers, Skyfall, Friday Night Lights, and The A-Team.

So far the team has practiced, and we have gone out to eat, but unfortunately they have not played a game yet. The first few games of the tournament have started and there have been a lot of upsets! Hopefully our school will not be one of those upsets as they find themselves a 2 seed in there bracket!

Tune in to some of the action on WXAV 88.3 fm or wxav.com tonight at 9:45 pm as we will get the tournament underway!

This Semester is going by Quick!

Hey guys!

This semester has been going by very fast. It seems like it was just yesterday we were getting ready to come back to school from winter break. The week after next we will already be on spring break, and I myself cannot wait!

As you all know, I am the play-by-play announcer for our schools men’s basketball team. For those of you who are not aware of it, our school has had one heck of a season and are getting ready to go down to Missouri to compete for the NAIA National Championship! Since I am one of the broadcasters for our school, I will be able to go down with the team to be able to call all of their games in the tournament. I like to think I am one of the luckiest people on campus because of this. Not only do I get to have an extra week off of school, I get to take a trip down to Missouri to be a part of the NAIA National Championship tournament! Hopefully by the time I return, our school will have another team atop the list of National Champions.

When we get back from the tournament, it will be spring break! I myself cannot wait for spring break either! I am a huge Chicago White Sox fan and this year for spring break, I will be traveling to Arizona to go to some spring training MLB games. This should be pretty exciting for me because I have never been this far in the west, and I have never been to spring training before. One of the big events I am excited for in Arizona is getting to see the White Sox vs. the Cubs March 15th. I think it will be quite the experience for me because of the huge sports fan that I am!

Be sure to read my blog next week and I will keep everyone updated on the progress of the basketball team and my experience in Missouri!

     See you later!

Hey Guys,

Will here again!

I wanted to tell you about all of the cool things I can do at the radio station!

One of my favorite parts of Saint Xavier is working and being a part of the student run radio station WXAV. WXAV allows me to play the music that I want to and allows me to learn skills that will help me out in the future. I am seeking a degree in mass communications, so everything that I learn at the radio station allows me to develop my skills.

Today, I was able to take part in a conference call at the radio station with two of the cast members of the hit NBC television show Parks and Recreations, Amy Poehler and Adam Scott. I am a big fan of both of them, so it was quite the experience to take part in the conference call. Unfortunately I was not able to ask a question, but that is part of the learning experience.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am the deputy sports director which gives me the opportunity to do a lot of creative things with the station. One great part of my job at the radio station is being able to call the play-by-play for Saint Xavier’s men’s basketball team. I am pretty excited tonight to be able to call my first CCAC tournament game for the guys. I have always been a huge sports fan and always thought it would be incredible to be able to announce games and because of WXAV and Saint Xavier I have been able to have that dream come true.
